Obama vs the Chamber of Commerce

February 7, 2011

What do you think about the Obama comments made to the Chamber of Commerce today? I quote:

“If we’re fighting to reform the tax code and increase exports, the benefits cannot just translate into greater profits and bonuses for those at the top. They have to be shared by American workers, who need to know that opening markets will lift their standard of living as well as your bottom line,” President Obama told the Chamber of Commerce on Monday morning.

It can be read to sound positive. But, in the USSR, it was all workers paid the same for hard or easy work, share equally in the fruits regardless of the contribution to them.

The Pilgrims in America in the 1600’s had the idea of communal gardens that everyone shared the produce and everyone was supposed to help. They failed to feed themselves. Next year everyone had their own plots and there was more than enough food for all.

Is there a positive reality to enlightened self interest?
